Faculty Member - Kendra Levin, associate editor at Viking Children's Books, edits picture books to YA. She is an award-winning playwright whose work has been produced off and off-off Broadway and also works with writers as a certified life coach.

The goal of the Midsouth Writing Retreat is to

write, learn, and write! Schedule below:

Friday -

Attendees may arrive as early as 2 PM on Friday. The only activities planned for Friday afternoon are move-in and personal writing time. Find a comfy place and get started!

Friday evening will include writing prompts led by Kendra Levin.

Saturday -

How Motivation Drives Story: Kendra Levin will use

a combination of coaching tools and editorial feedback to help

you get to the heart of what your characters want - and use

their desires to make your story more dynamic and compelling,

while linking motivation to plot and novel revision. The workshop

will include writing exercises, group discussion, and much more.

Saturday evening will include critique group time and writing challenges led by Candie Moonshower.

Sunday -

Sunday morning personal writing time.

11:30 AM Sunday - closing remarks

12:00 PM Farewell & Goodbyes

Registration Instructions:

- Registration is limited to the first 25 registrants.

- We are renting the entire McCoy House (with 13 bottom bunks, all upstairs in 4 rooms) and 15 hotel-style rooms at the Foeman Lodge. The buildings are close enough to walk back and forth. Our meetings and meals will be in the McCoy House great room.

- Breakfasts (coffee, juice, danishes, bagels, quiches, and fruit), lunches (sandwich fixings, chips, and salads), and dinners (BBQ one night and lasagna the other - with side dishes and desserts) will be included in your registration fees. You may bring snacks or alternative food if you wish. A fully stocked kitchen is provided. We must clean up after ourselves, though.

- Alcohol is prohibited by the facility.

- Choose the lodging type and dates that fit your needs. Dormitory lodging in the McCoy House requires you to bring towels plus pillows, and linens for your twin bunk bed.

- You may stay either one night or both.

- You may attend on Saturday only to hear the speaker and not stay the night, but you will still need to register. Lunch will be included if you register for Saturday only. Only 5 spots will be available for the Saturday only attendees.

- Find the registration that applies to you (SCBWI Member or Non-Member with the lodging and dates you choose).

- If you select the hotel-style room, you may choose to share the room with another attendee and split that rate between the two of you (or four of you if you choose). However, the other attendee(s) must register as a Saturday only attendee(s). They will also need to pay $5 per meal to the RA at the retreat. Contact Genetta if you plan to share a Foeman Lodge hotel-style room.

- Everyone attending must register online. You will have the option of paying by either credit card, paypal, or by sending a check to:
